Vianne has also been working on several children&#8217;s books which will hopefully see the light of day sometime in the new year.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cathellisen.com\/novels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Cat Hellisen<\/strong><\/a> released the second of her Hobverse books, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/House-Sand-Secrets-Books-Oreyn-ebook\/dp\/B00G42SPV4\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387398828&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=house+of+sand+and+secrets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The House of Sand and Secrets<\/em><\/a>, the sequel to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/When-Sea-Rising-Red-Hellisen-ebook\/dp\/B005J4EXW8\/ref=la_B0052Y7C14_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387398857&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>When the Sea Is Rising Red<\/em><\/a>.<br \/>\nWe featured Cat\u2019s story &#8216;The Subtle Thief&#8217; in <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/something-wicked-issue-04-august-2007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issue 4<\/a> and again in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Something-Wicked-Anthology-Speculative-Fiction\/dp\/0987032011\/ref=la_B009TPIPS6_1_2?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387397197&amp;sr=1-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Volume Two<\/a> of our annual anthology with &#8216;Jack of Spades, Reversed&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Idea War, Vol One, by Abi Godsell\" src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/2816fc_7fa0a2568f7eb701fb8112e272d6852f.jpg_srz_p_600_850_75_22_0.50_1.20_0.00_jpg_srz\" alt=\"\" width=\"163\" height=\"232\" \/><strong>Nerine Dorman<\/strong> just signed with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.word-smack.com\/#!news\/nws1\/D7F83AE5-00B6-4483-97B5-5D249\">Wordsmack Publishers<\/a> who will be releasing her book <em>The Guardian\u2019s Wyrd<\/em> in 2014. Nerine short story,\u00a0 &#8216;Last Woman Standing&#8217; featured in <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/something-wicked-issue-09-february-2009\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issue 9<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cyanseagulls.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Abi Godsell<\/strong><\/a> has also been signed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.word-smack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wordsmack Publishers<\/a> who released her first novel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Idea-War-1-Abi-Godsell-ebook\/dp\/B00GTIEPYO\/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399072&amp;sr=1-3&amp;keywords=idea+wars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Idea War, Volume One<\/em><\/a>.<br \/>\nAbi has been featured numerous times within the pages of <em>Something Wicked<\/em>, in <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/something-wicked-issue-06-may-2008\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issues 6<\/a> (&#8216;Making Waves&#8217;) <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/magazine\/something-wicked-issue-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issue 10<\/a> (&#8216;The Guitar Case&#8217;) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Something-Wicked-Anthology-Vol-One-ebook\/dp\/B009L7ZF2G\/ref=la_B009TPIPS6_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399173&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SW Anthology, Vol One<\/a> (&#8216;Silver City and The Green Place&#8217;) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Something-Wicked-Anthology-Speculative-Fiction\/dp\/0987032011\/ref=la_B009TPIPS6_1_2?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399173&amp;sr=1-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vol Two<\/a> (&#8216;Red Moon I&#8217;).<br \/>\nAs far as I know we were her first publishing credit and it makes us tremendously proud to have witnessed her journey over the past six years from teenage writer to published author.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2396\" title=\"TheThreeSamll\" src=\"https:\/\/somethingwicked.co.za\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/TheThreeSamll.jpg\" alt=\"The Three by Sarah Lotz\" width=\"223\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/somethingwicked.co.za\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/TheThreeSamll.jpg 223w, https:\/\/somethingwicked.co.za\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/TheThreeSamll-193x300.jpg 193w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 223px) 100vw, 223px\" \/>Another author for whom, unbelievably, <em>Something Wicked<\/em> was her first published credit is <strong>Sarah Lotz<\/strong>. We were extremely fortunate to be sent her short story &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.somethingwicked.co.za\/archives\/stories_issue_1_spring_2006\/perfect_man_the.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Perfect Man<\/a>&#8216; for our very first issue, back in October of 2006. Talk about a force of nature, Sarah is an unstoppable writing machine. In just a few short years she has published 16 novels under four different names, including her own.<br \/>\nHer latest novel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Three-Novel-Sarah-Lotz\/dp\/031624290X\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399361&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=the+three+sarah+lotz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Three<\/em><\/a> was sold to Hodder &amp; Stoughton in a <a href=\"http:\/\/bookslive.co.za\/blog\/2012\/10\/04\/sarah-lotz-signs-six-figure-book-deal-with-hodder-and-stoughton-for-the-three-and-a-second-book\/\">six-figure deal<\/a> earlier this year and has already been picked up by <a href=\"http:\/\/bookslive.co.za\/blog\/2013\/11\/29\/company-pictures-acquires-tv-rights-for-the-three-and-the-sequel-day-four-by-sarah-lotz\/\">Company Pictures to be turned into a TV mini-series<\/a>.<br \/>\nSarah stories were featured in <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/something-wicked-issue-01-october-2006\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issue 1<\/a> (&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.somethingwicked.co.za\/archives\/stories_issue_1_spring_2006\/perfect_man_the.html\">The Perfect Man<\/a>&#8216;), <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/something-wicked-issue-04-august-2007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issue 4<\/a> (&#8216;An Eye for an Eye&#8217;), and <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/something-wicked-issue-08-november-2008\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issue 8<\/a> (&#8216;One Last Binge&#8217;)<\/p>\n<p>After winning the Arthur C Clarke award two years ago for her outstanding novel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Zoo-City-Lauren-Beukes-ebook\/dp\/B0055EC3L0\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399501&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=Zoo+City\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Zoo City<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"laurenbeukes.com\/\">Lauren Beukes<\/a> came back in 2013 with a vengeance. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Shining-Girls-Novel-Lauren-Beukes\/dp\/0316216852\/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399501&amp;sr=1-2&amp;keywords=Zoo+City\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Shining Girls<\/em><\/a> outstripped all expectations and went on to make best-seller lists and be critically acclaimed by the likes of Stephen King and soon after the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mulhollandbooks.com\/2013\/06\/03\/the-shining-girls-by-lauren-beukes-to-be-adapted-for-tv-by-mrc-and-leonardo-dicaprios-appian-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TV rights were sold to MRC and Leonardo DiCaprio\u2019s Appian Way<\/a> to be developed into a series.<br \/>\nHer graphic novel with artist Inaki Miranda, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fairest-Vol-2-Hidden-Kingdom-ebook\/dp\/B00DD3NT9U\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399608&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=fairest+the+hidden+kingdom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fairest: The Hidden Kingdom<\/a>, <\/em>a dark Tokyo twist on the legend of Rapunzel set in Bill Willingham\u2019s Fables universe, debuted at No.2 on The New York Times Graphic Novel Bestseller List in August 2013.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2400\" title=\"Fairest Vol Two: The Hidden Kingdom\" src=\"https:\/\/somethingwicked.co.za\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Fairest1-194x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/somethingwicked.co.za\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Fairest1-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/somethingwicked.co.za\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Fairest1.jpg 308w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/>Although Lauren Beukes was already an established author by the time we published her work, we were still extremely proud to feature an early chapter from her then still-to-be-published first novel <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Moxyland-Angry-Robot-Lauren-Beukes-ebook\/dp\/B0055D8VCG\/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387399501&amp;sr=1-3&amp;keywords=Zoo+City\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Moxyland <\/em><\/a>in issue 3.<br \/>\nAnother of Lauren\u2019s short stories, \u2018Dear Mariana\u2019 featured in <a href=\"http:\/\/weightlessbooks.com\/format\/something-wicked-issue-08-november-2008\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Issue 8<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite all the amazing things that happened in 2013, for me the most exciting and awesome thing was the signing of Miranda Sherry to <a href=\"http:\/\/headofzeus.com\/article\/black-dog-summer-miranda-sherry\">Head of Zeus to publish her first novel <em>Black Dog Summer<\/em><\/a>.<br \/>\nI am unashamedly proud of Miranda. She is one of my oldest and dearest friends and to see her succeed is the best gift I could have received this year.<br \/>\nOver the last several years I have been fortunate enough to read three of Miranda\u2019s novels and trust me when I say this, she is one of the most exciting writers to come out of SA this year and I honestly believe she is going to take the world by storm with her debut novel.
