Thank you for sticking around and seeing us into this new incarnation as an online magazine.

For those of you who are new to Something Wicked, this is our first issue in our new skin, so to speak. New site, new format, new publication schedule and new beginnings.

We’re incredibly excited to be back, though the hiatus was much needed. We officially closed our doors in February of 2010 due to a combination of financial pressures and growing work commitments for both Vianne and I. But we went out with a bang, four of the nine stories published in Issue 10 were picked out as honourable mentions by Ellen Datlow for her Best Horror of The Year Volume 3, namely “Zombieville” by Paula R Stiles, “Phadder’s Sins” by Sean and Craig Davis, “Blue Hag” by William Meikle and Graeme Hurry and “The Guitar Case” by Abi Godsell. Abi also won the 2010 Nova Short Story Competition, (look out for a reworked version of her winning entry in a future issue of Something Wicked). All of these stories are available to read on the Something Wicked website or for download through our online store.

But enough about the past, let’s talk about the future. We’re back and we’re thoroughly excited with our new incarnation.

The new Something Wicked is an online magazine and we’ll feature new stories and articles every Tuesday on the website, but it’s also an e-book with new issues available to download on the first of every month through our online store and Amazon.

We’ve also set up a subscription option through Weightless Books, If you still have a subscription from last year, don’t worry, we will be emailing you your new issues of Something Wicked until your subs run out.

But wait, there’s more. For those of you who are still attached to paper, (I’m one of you) we will also be publishing a limited edition bi-annual anthology of all the stories every six months.

We’ll also be returning to our podcasts with monthly interviews, readings or radio plays taken from the pages of Something Wicked.

So without further ado, allow me to introduce to you Issue 11 of Something Wicked.

We start the issue off with “The Silver City and The Green Place”, by Abi Godsell, which tells the tale of a breakthrough scientific experiment in artificial intelligence. Next up is “Unstitched Love” by Michael Bailey, which is all about a little girl making a teddy bear for her rather annoying sister, needless to say things don’t quite turn out as planned.

“Sky Painter”, by Michael John Grist is an epic fable about a fallen king and the love he left behind, and we close of the issue with a virtual reality noir murder mystery entitled “Alpha & Omega” by Paul Marlowe.

Our feature interview for this month is with SL Grey, who is actually the pseudonym of Louis Greenberg and Sarah Lotz (remember Sarah? She won our debut issue Short Story Competition).

And don’t forget the non-fiction, we have Writers Cornered interviews with all four of our authors, an article on the feasibility of true AI and a wacky piece on psychotic toys and why we love them.

And that’s our issue, we hope you enjoy it, and if you do, tell your friends, follow us on twitter (@Somethin_Wicked), “Like” us on Facebook, and buy a subscription for everyone you know.

And now it’s time for me to shut up and let you enjoy the issue.

Signing out.
Joe Vaz
Editor
Cape Town
29 June 12:38am

by Joe Vaz

We start the issue off with “The Silver City and The Green Place”, by Abi Godsell, which tells the tale of a breakthrough scientific experiment in artificial intelligence.
